The Center for Citizen Science has been supporting the cooperation between science and schools in citizen science projects through Young Science for years. The aim is to promote the dissemination of Citizen Science in schools and to support the further development of the Citizen Science concept for the use in school lessons.
For reading into the topic we recommend the Sparkling Science Evaluations or the Recommendations for Cooperation between Science and Schools, which were developed in the context of the 4th Austrian Citizen Science Conference 2018. You can find teaching materials on the Sparkling Science website.
Citizen Science Award
Every year since 2015, the research competition, which is being organised by the OeAD, has been inviting students and adults to participate in research from April to the end of the school year.
Working group „Citizen Science at/with schools“
Since 2019, the OeAD-led working group (WG) has been focusing on the collaboration of science and schools in Citizen Science projects. In September 2021, the WG published a brochure entitled "Citizen Science - Researching with Schools. Basics, recommendations & practical tips for joint projects" (in German) for researchers and teachers.
Citizen Science School Contacts
The research partner schools, which are awarded the Young Science Seal of Approval (in German "Young-Science-Gütesiegel"), are ideally suited as cooperation partners in e.g. scientific projects. Other schools also have contact persons and are looking forward to a cooperation.
