On a national as well as international level, Citizen Science funding activities are launched only occasionally so far. Some of them support entire Citizen Science projects, others only support partial aspects such as networking activities.

Current calls

The funding programme "Sparkling Science 2.0" is running, but the first call is closed.

Horizon Europe is the new EU research and innovation program of the European Commission (EC) with €95.5 billion in funding for the seven-year period. A good opportunity to familiarize yourself with the EC funding criteria is to work as a scientific evaluator. For this you can find all important information in the Portal Funding & tender opportunities.

Past calls

Since 2007, the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF) has been supporting the Austrian research community through various funding programs to anchor Citizen Science and the cooperation between science, schools and society in Austria. Other institutions such as the Austrian Science Fund FWF or the Innovationsstiftung für Bildung followed the example of the BMBWF in recent years. Also on an international level, e.g. within the framework of Horizon 2020, a lot has happened in recent years.
