"Sparkling Science 2.0"

With "Sparkling Science 2.0", the OeAD, on behalf of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF), promotes research projects in which research and educational institutions and, where possible, members of the civil society cooperate and jointly contribute to the generation of innovative research results. The new programme is based on the experience of “Sparkling Science”. The predecessor programme funded a total of 299 high-quality research projects that combined the promotion of young talent with excellent research.

Sparkling Science 2.0

With the successor programme “Sparkling Science 2.0”, the BMBWF is setting a new funding priority, oriented to fund projects in which research and educational institutions and, where possible, members of the civil society also cooperate and jointly contribute to the generation of innovative research results. The call for proposals is closed.

Looking back: Sparkling Science (2007-2019)

In the Sparkling Science projects supported by the OeAD on behalf of BMBWF, 200 research institutions tackled scientific issues together with more than 102k pupils. They measured trees in the rainforest in Costa Rica, experimented with mathematical algorithms or investigated the conditions for successful care work in the event of illness or need for care etc. In total, the programme was funded with around 35 million euros – an investment that has paid off: Considerable interest in research was awakened in children and young people and scientists gained innovative insights through the cooperation with citizen scientists.
