The publication sheds light on the context, motives and consequences of attacks on scientists on the internet.

Whether on social media or in public spaces and at events – by communicating publicly about their research, scientists expose themselves to the risk of negative reactions or even hate comments and hostility. But what does research actually know about these attacks? How often do they occur and who is particularly affected? What is the motivation of the attackers?

The Transfer Unit Science Communication's research overview summarizes the findings on science-related attacks. The authors shed light on the background to the attacks and ask who is particularly affected and what consequences these attacks can have.
