In this volume, the team led by Ulrike Zartler (University of Vienna) demonstrates how Concept Cartoon discussions can be used as a participatory and visual method in social science childhood research and in educational contexts.
From 2017 to 2019, the SMILE project team from the Institute of Sociology at the University of Vienna explored the concepts and communication processes of 8- to 10-year-old students regarding parental separation, employing a participatory and innovative methodological approach. Concept Cartoons—illustrations depicting everyday situations and presenting different viewpoints of various characters—were used for the first time in social sciences.
The book, "Concept Cartoons. Methodological Foundations and Implementation in Family Research," now offers numerous practical application examples for working with this innovative method and illustrates its implementation through topics such as family, separation, and divorce. It is available in bookstores.
